Many travelers still confuse the American Visa Waiver Program with British requirements. <\/p>\n<p>Short answer: no, <strong>the ESTA does not allow you to enter the UK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_ESTA\"><\/span>What is ESTA?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>ESTA is an electronic authorization issued by the United States. It applies to nationals of countries belonging to the Visa Waiver Program, such as France, Belgium, Switzerland and Spain. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bairnet.org\/en\/what-documents-do-i-need-to-travel-to-the-usa\/\">The ESTA allows you to travel to the United States<\/a> for up to 90 days, for tourism, business or transit, without a visa. It is valid only for the U.S. territory (including Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Guam).<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Can_I_use_ESTA_to_enter_the_UK\"><\/span>Can I use ESTA to enter the UK?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>No.  <\/strong>The UK has no administrative link with the ESTA system.<\/p>\n<p>Even if you&#8217;re passing through the USA on your way to London, Manchester or Edinburgh, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bairnet.org\/en\/an-esta-or-a-visa-for-transit-to-the-usa\/\">the ESTA only authorizes you to transit the USA<\/a>, not to enter the UK.<\/p>\n<p>The UK has had its own immigration rules since January 1, 2021, the date of its official exit from the European Union.<\/p>\n<p>What authorization do I need to travel to the UK?<\/p>\n<p>Since 2024, the UK has been implementing its own system: <a href=\"https:\/\/uk-gb.net\/en\/eta-england-united-kingdom\/\">the British ETA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This scheme is similar to ESTA, but valid only for the UK.
