Annual Report of the Alliance
The Alliance of the Church of Universal
Fellowship meets the second Tuesday of each month, September through May,
in the Parish House. Except on special occasions, each meeting begins at
12:15 p.m. with a brown bag lunch followed by a program and a business
meeting. Programs this year have been designed to increase our understanding
of other cultures. Thanks to Dorothy Griffin, our program chairman, and
to Nancy Anchors, who works with the International students at the University
of Maine, we have learned about Guyana from, "Sammy", and Croatia and Malaysia
from Danielle and Selina. We have listened to folk music form Bulgaria
played by Andre Ahiansks on his guitar and admired baskets and jewelry
crafted by Jennifer Neptune of the Penobscot Nation. Thanks to Ted Shina
who described the Outdoor Classroom in the James River Forest and illustrated
his teaching techniques with great -- and humorous--posters, and to David
Struck who discussed with us the Orono Town Management programs and helped
us learn a little more about our own neighborhood.
The purpose of the Alliance is,
of course, to help the Church of Universal Fellowship. To this end, we
participated with the Fellowship Circle in both spring and fall rummage
sales and in the November Fair. We also raised money by holding our two
annual luncheons, the Fair luncheon in the fall and the Daffodil luncheon
in the spring. With members of the Fellowship Circle, we have assisted
at receptions for memorial services, and supported a child through the
Childreach Program. We have also served dinner at the Wilson Center and
contributed to other local organizations and programs. If needed, Verna
Witter can supply a list of these.
A special thank you goes to Verna
Witter for her excellent accounting, to Dorothy Plummer for her anything-but-stuffy
secretarial reports, to Dorothy Griffin for wonderful programs, and to
Anise Thurlow for being chairman for devotions, as well as to all our members
and friends who are always ready to help with projects or to just have
fun together. Come and join us.
