The New Renaissance Singers is a community choral group

and
especially enjoy singing madrigals.
The New Renaissance Singers, under the direction of
Sandra Blanchette, with accompaniment by Stephanie Bennett, is
now rehearsing for a Halloween Mystery Concert in October 2000.

There are no auditions or try-outs to join the New Renaissance Singers -- just a love to sing and perform! We rehearse Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 703 Essex Street, Bangor. Come to a rehearsal and see how much fun you'll have!

Our Members
Our community chorus is comprised
of singers from many different occupations -- a nurse, artist,
business owner, CPA, attorney, librarian, day-care provider,
homemaker -- just to name a few. We all join together with a love
and enthusiasm for singing and performing. Our members are
professional and non-professional musicians, as well as students
of voice, piano and music.

Our Board
The chorus is governed by a
volunteer Board of Directors, who meet monthly.
Community Participation
The New Renaissance Singers have always participated
in community activities. We led the Holiday Tree Lighting at
Haymarket Square in downtown Bangor for seven years; performed at
many open houses and special performances at BMHI. We have joined
together in small groups for holiday caroling and other
performances around Bangor, including area malls, and the Bangor
Public Library Summer Music Series.
Concert Season
The Singers
traditionally perform two or more concerts a year. We sing all
types of music, both old and new -- madrigals, carols, chanteys,
classical works, and pop and jazz tunes. We have performed the
"Magnificat" by both Pergolesi and Vivaldi, Dufay's
"Gloria," Gabriel Faure's "Requiem," a
concert panorama of Gershwin favorites, a "Broadway and
Before" concert, as well as traditional songs of various
cultures. In 1998 we performed "May Madrigal Madness"
in the Spring and "A Night of Spook-Tacular Music" on
Halloween. The following year we presented "Around the World
with Folk Songs," and in 2000 "Twelfth Night
Festival," and "Songs by Famous Poets."
