LATEST NEWSCompiled By Jim FosterQuick! Mark Your Calendars! On October 19th, the Friends will present the third in a series of plays featuring the citizens of Tranquillity Falls, Maine. Mark your calendars and order your tickets now if you like humorous murder mysteries. That’s right. There is another murder and it will be solved when we see Tranquillity Falls at Sea. No small part of the evening’s entertainment will be seeing ten of Skowhegan’s citizens acting in a different manner than they would in their every day lives. The cast consists of Rick Bonneau, Carla Burnham, Norman Dickey, Iver Lofving, Elton (Mickey) Powers, Janet Powers, Lynda Quinn, Mary Stuart, Jim Wright and Veronica Wright. The play will take place in the Fellowship Hall of the Centenary Methodist Church at 7:00 p.m. on October 19, 2001. Not only will you enjoy guessing “who done it” after the second act, but you will also have dessert and the opportunity of winning one of many door prizes. Seating is limited, so get your tickets ($7.50 each) early. They are available at the Library or through calling Marcia Granville at 474-7207, Corrilla Hastings at 474-3949, or Sharon Worthly at 634-5030. You may leave a message on either of the phones and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. Don’t forget to see Tranquillity Falls at Sea on October 19th. You’ll be glad you did.Art Exhibit in OctoberPriscilla Graf Riley’s Art Exhibit Skowhegan art teacher, Priscilla Graf Riley will have an exhibit of her work at the Library from October 11 through 25. In addition, the Friends will host a print signing for Priscilla on Saturday, October 13 from 10 AM until 2 PM. Be sure to stop in and admire the work of this talented artist. November 14 FOL Meeting Program “Who, Where, When, What Says So?” will be the title of a talk on genealogy when the Friends meet on Wednesday, November 14 at 7 PM at the Library. The speaker will be Ann Thomas who has been doing genealogy since 1967. She is a member of the Maine Historical Society, Maine Genealogical Society, Life Member of Kennebec Historical Society, and has served as a governor-appointed member of the Maine State Archives Advisory Board since 1986. We look forward to Ann’s program and invite all people interested in this subject to attend. It promises to be a very informative evening.October 26 Halloween PartyAn hour of Halloween fun will be presented at the Library by the Friends on Friday, October 26 from 4 to 5 PM. Plans are underway for games, competitions, crafts and refreshments. This event will be suitable for all ages. No scary sights or sounds will be included, so the very young as well as school-age children should feel comfortable attending. Costumes are optional, but we prefer that spooky masks remain at home.September Work SessionOur hard-working chair of the Weeding/Cleaning committee, Mary Stuart, organized a work session on September 22. Three hours of cleaning left the upstairs with the spicy scent of lemon oil. Thank you, Mary! VOLUNTEERS: Are you ready to join us for the next cleaning party? Please contact Mary or our Volunteer Coordinator, Kathy Hughes.Wednesday Morning Story and Craft HourThanks to Marcia Granville’s donation of a tape player, we are now able to use children’s tapes for songs and rhythms during the weekly story hour. “Peanut Butter and Jelly” by Hugh Hanley seems to be the current favorite of both Mrs. Moody and the story-time participants. We invite children of all ages to join the fun at 10 o’clock every Wednesday morning.Jim Foster New FOML PresidentJim Foster, the Vice President of the Friends of Skowhegan Free Public Library, was elected President of the Friends of Maine Libraries (FOML) at the September 28 Annual Conference.
