BANGOR EDUCATION FOUNDATION
Grants $27,000 and Going Strong
With the awarding of two grants in October 1997, BEF has donated a 10-year total of $27,728 to Bangor public school teachers through its Small Grants Program. From salmon spawning to forest ecology to Holocaust remembrances, the small grants have enriched the public school experience by enabling teachers with innovative ideas to supplement their classroom work with special tools, supplies and project funding.
This October, BEF continued its support of creative teaching by awarding $1,234 to two elementary teachers for two very different types of books. Stephanie Leonard received $514 for supplies to start an after school Sketchbook club for artistically gifted 4th and 5th graders at Fairmount School. BEF also awarded $720 to Barbara Kelley to support her effort to create welcoming books for kindergartners and new students at Vine St School.
BEF extends to all grant recipients, past and present, ongoing encouragement and support of your fresh ideas and tireless work on behalf of the children you teach.
