Parking Regulations

Home Page

Below are some parking regulations which, while they are not unique to Bangor, are not found in all communities in Maine. These regulations are the ones most frequently misunderstood by people visiting Bangor. This page will be expanded in the future to cover enforcement procedures, disposition of tickets, additional regulations, etc.

Night-Time Parking - No vehicle is allowed to stop, stand, park, or remain upon any public way, public square, or public parking area with the City of Bangor between the hours of midnight and 6:00 AM, between November 1 and March 31 of each year.

Blocking Snow Removal - No vehicle shall at any time be parked or allowed to remain upon any street, public way, public square, or public parking area so as to interfere with or hinder snow removal, or snow plowing operations. Vehicles found in violation are almost always towed.

Violation Of Alternate-Side Parking - Between November 1 and March 31 of each year, parking is allowed only on one side of the street, except in areas which are signed to allow parking at all time. If an area is marked to prohibit parking at all times, then the opposite side of the road is used for parking. On even-numbered days of the week parking is allowed only on the side of the street where the houses are even-numbered. On odd-numbered days of the week parking is allowed only on the side of the street where the houses are odd-numbered.

Parking On A Esplanade - Allowing a vehicle to stop, stand, park, or remain on the grassy area between the paved portion of the street and the sidewalk is a violation.
