The Human Resources division of the City of Bangor
(207-945-4400) handles all applications for employment in the
Bangor Police Department. Hiring lists are established as needed,
but usually once a year. The Bangor Police Department hires only
the best qualified applicants, without regard to sex, race,
color, creed, or religion.
Minimum Requirements
- At least a two-year degree in law enforcement, or four
years of college education.
No criminal history record. Excellent motor vehicle
history.

Interview Board
Background Check
Polygraph.
- Job Offer Conditional on Passing the Following Exams.
Physical fitness exam to ensure applicants ability to
meet the minimum standards for attending the Maine
Criminal Justice Academy.
Medical certification that required tasks can be
performed.
Psychological profile to ensure mental fitness to perform
police duties.
